Christmas Markets, which originate from Germany, are hugely popular across all of Europe.
Birmingham proclaims to have the biggest German Christmas Markets in Europe, outside of Germany & Austria themselves. With over 180 stalls along the city strip it is a great time of year to visit this city. The market tends to run every day for the five weeks before Christmas and whilst it does run during the day, from 10am onwards, I suggest going at night as it is just that much more magical. It closes at 9pm each night.
The market is centered in Victoria Square in front of the council house and stretches down to the Rotunda. The crafts section of the markets is held in Centenary square, near the library.
Be sure to drink mulled wine or a Stein of German Beer. Eat Bratwurst, Pretzels and Crepes. Sing to the Christmas Carols and join in the Christmas festivities. I was smiling from ear to ear, I had so much fun!
