New Zealand, the land of a million sheep, is not only stunningly beautiful but a travelers dream. There is an endless amount of things to see and do in this beautiful country.
A few years ago I found myself spontaneously booking a trip to New Zealand after seeing a deal on a Kiwi Experience pass. Five years later, and a whole lot more traveling in between, it is still one of the best spontaneous decisions I ever made. Today I want to share with you why you should consider booking the Kiwi Experience to get around this adventurous country!
I would like to add that in no way was I paid for this post or my opinions, I just really loved this tour and know you will too!
9 THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT THE KIWI EXPERIENCE
WHY NEW ZEALAND?
New Zealand is one of the most beautiful and scenic countries in the world. With Volcanoes, Mountains, Geysers, Glaciers, Rainforests and stunning Beaches the natural beauty of New Zealand is definitely its biggest selling point. Add on to that the friendly locals and an incredible Maori culture and you have the perfect combination for a one of a kind adventure.
WHAT IS THE KIWI EXPERIENCE?
Put simply the Kiwi Experience is a Hop-On Hop-Off, Guided bus company that transports like-minded travelers to all the best places in New Zealand.
One of the best parts about the Kiwi Experience is that it makes traveling easy. For those of you who have traveled often you will know how exhausting it can be to be constantly thinking about where to stay, where to go and how to get there on a budget. Kiwi Experience does all of this for you. They have a number of routes and passes that take you the best spots in the country so you don’t need to worry about researching and planning. The best accommodation sites are recommended to you, with drop off at the front door.
You also don’t have to worry about driving after a big night of partying, you can just sit back, relax and watch the beautiful scenery (or take a nap).
The beauty of Kiwi Experience is that it is flexible, guided travel. Whilst the pass you choose has a minimum amount of days needed to do the route you are free to hop on and hop off as you like. If you visit a town you love you can stay for a few extra nights (or a few extra months) and hop back on the next bus whenever you are ready to leave. The pass is valid for twelve months of travel from your first day on the road so you can spend as long as you like exploring the country. Many passes include unlimited travel meaning you can go around the country as many times as you like within the 12 month period.
In most cases the pass is open-dated and can be used at any point within twelve months of purchase, meaning you can make the most of their regular 50% sales!
THE DRIVERS ARE AWESOME
The drivers for Kiwi Experience are much more than bus drivers – they are young, hilarious, knowledgable and fun-loving guides who are extremely enthusiastic and passionate about their country. They love their job and they love socialising and partying with the passengers. Five years later I am still in regular contact with our driver, Bex, and am sure I will catch up with her again next time I am in New Zealand.
What is so unique about Kiwi experience is that you can make the trip whatever you want to be. If you want your trip to be as adventurous as can be you can make the most of all of the adrenaline-filled activities on offer like Bungee Jumping, Sky-Diving and White Water Rafting. If you want to party your way around the country there is always a backpacker friendly bar near the hostels and a bus full of people eager to join you. If you want to relax, hike some mountains and spend the night reading a book you can do that too. Kiwi experience is perfect for every type of traveler!
Whether you are traveling solo or with a group of friends it is pretty much impossible to end your trip on Kiwi Experience without leaving with a handful of life-long friendships too. The bus is filled with like-minded travelers that are eager to explore, be adventurous and have fun. You will never feel alone and will always have someone to see the sights with. Most travelers are aged between 20-35 though according to their website the oldest passenger was 92 years old so it really is for everyone and anyone. With 30,000 travelers using Kiwi Experience a year you know they are on to a good thing!
WHICH TOUR TO CHOOSE?
That is entirely up to you, your budget and which destinations appeal to you most. From memory I did the ‘Rangi’ pass, though I also added the optional day trip to Milford Sound. They tend to have some pretty epic deals regularly so that could also be a big deciding point on which pass you choose to do.
The day spent at Franz Josef Glacier was mind-blowing (and exhausting).
Partying it up at the ‘Poo Pub’ at Lake Mahinapua with the entire bus was such a fun night!
Visiting the Tamaki Maori Village where we learnt about the Maori Culture and ate traditional food.
I have a million other memories and stories to share about my time in New Zealand but they’ll all have to wait for another day and another blog. Keep updated by subscribing to the blog or giving the Facebook page a like, so you never miss out again.
I truly enjoyed the entire six weeks I spent in New Zealand and it definitely would not have been the same without doing the Kiwi Experience.
Purchasing a last-minute Kiwi Experience ticket was one of the best spontaneous decisions I have made in my entire seven years of travel.
